Dropped Kerbs
**A standard crossover will ordinarily consist of 4 ‘dropped’ kerbs and one ‘dropper’ either side. Each kerb is 900mm in length, making the vast majority of crossovers 5.4m in width. If you want your crossover larger than this then you will often need expression permission from Highways.
Do you currently have permission from Highways for a vehicle crossover?

Please note that a vehicle crossover will always include us excavating and removing the whole of the existing pavement, excavating down to create a deeper sub-base, before re-laying the tarmac to an increased specification as per Highways’ requirements. We can never simply ‘lower the kerbs’, there is no way to leave the existing pavement in.
